Why Early Spring Is One of the Quietest — and Nicest — Times to Visit the Coast
There’s a particular feeling to the coast in early spring.
The days are noticeably longer, the light feels softer, and everything seems to slow down just a little. The busyness of summer hasn’t arrived yet, but winter has loosened its grip. It’s a calm, comfortable in-between — and for many people, it’s the best time of year to visit.
March and early April offer a version of the coast that’s often overlooked. One where walks are quieter, cafés are relaxed, and you can take your time without feeling like you need to plan every hour of the day.
A calmer pace, naturally
Outside of school holidays, the park settles into a gentler rhythm. Mornings start quietly, paths are peaceful, and there’s space to enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
For couples and retirees, this slower pace is often exactly what makes a break feel restorative. There’s no pressure to “make the most of it” — just the freedom to enjoy being there.
Spring arriving at the coast
Early spring brings small but noticeable changes. Fresh air, brighter mornings, and the first signs of the season shifting. Walks feel easier, afternoons stretch out a little longer, and there’s a sense that everything is waking up again.
It’s an ideal time for coastal strolls, sitting outside with a coffee, or simply watching the light change across the park as the day goes on.
Space to do as much — or as little — as you like
One of the biggest advantages of visiting at this time of year is the flexibility. Without peak-season crowds, you can decide what the day looks like as it unfolds.
Some days that might mean exploring the local area. Other days, it might mean staying close to your accommodation, enjoying the view, and taking things slowly. There’s no right or wrong way to spend the time — and that’s part of the appeal.
A different kind of coastal break
For many of our guests, early spring breaks become something they return to year after year. Not because they’re busy or event-filled, but because they offer space, calm, and a genuine chance to switch off.
If you enjoy quieter moments, fresh sea air, and the feeling of the season gently changing around you, March and early April are well worth considering.
Sometimes the best breaks aren’t about what’s happening — but about what isn’t.
